The Future of Dating Is Coming: Here’s Why It’ll Have You Running For the Hills…

Future Dating, Same Old Problems…

According to a recent report, 70% of all relationships will be started via online interactions by the year 2040.

Online dating can be an incredibly useful tool to help you meet more women than ever before, but how about experiencing an entire relationship in virtual reality?

The study, conducted by eHarmony and Imperial College Business School, investigates various ways men and women will romantically interact in the future. From eliminating awkward silences thanks to real-time artificial intelligence to having robots as romantic partners (seriously), no topic goes untouched.

But what does all of this mean for you?

You’ve already read about ways you can use today’s technology to get more dates; however, the future of dating is a little more murky, and in many cases, quite grim.

What Happens When Science Interferes With Your Sex Life?

The report’s findings aren’t all that mind-blowing in theory. According to the report:

“The findings reveal a ‘super-charged’ continuation of what we are already seeing in the online dating industry that people want to be matched, and ultimately form relationships with, like-minded people in the most efficient way possible. What’s different is how people will go about it, redefined by advances in science and everyday consumer technology.”

There’s nothing inherently bad about this. In fact, you might even say it sounds attractive!

However, the issue arises not with the goal in mind to meet better matches more efficiently but with the means by which the goal is achieved.

The new technologies the report describes will disrupt the process of dating in such a way that personal human connection is no longer required, and in some instances, extremely creepy.

Take, for example, New Deal Design, the company that developed Fitbit’s trackers. Sure, Fitbit is cool, but the firm is now in the process of developing a “tattoo” that visualizes your emotions for everyone to see.

How would you feel about your most private feelings being broadcast to complete strangers, including that awesome girl you’re talking to?

That’s what we apparently have in store for us by 2040.

Honesty is valuable, but allowing your partner to see all of your emotions at any given time is an invasion of privacy. Some things should just be kept personal.

How You Can Use Technology To Your Advantage With Women

As with all progressive technology, though, there are advantages despite the setbacks.

Interacting with women can be a nerve-wracking and stressful experience, and many of us turn to online platforms to help ease our anxieties. In today’s world, this is a common trap men fall into, but by 2040, it could be a strategic decision not a last resort.

According to the report, by 2040 the pool of women you have to choose from will be substantially larger. This is all thanks to something called the Hyperloop, which is a mode of high-speed transportation that could make international travel as easy as your morning commute.

With the Hyperloop, long-distance dating would no longer be a sexless struggle. Men could use online dating to look for partners all over the world…and actually meet them.

Another future alternative is to experience entire dates in virtual reality.

The study found that the rate of data transfer required to simulate virtual reality for all six senses is 2,850,000 bits per second.

The image above shows how the data would theoretically be divided.

By 2040, computers will have the capacity to transfer data at a rate of 952,000,000,000 bits per second. That’s over 300,000 times the data required to simulate virtual reality!

By using virtual dating, you’ll be able to “meet” women online before you meet them in person, all from the comfort of your own home.

These are significant changes to the future world of dating, but not everything will be different come 2040.

The Key Aspect of Dating That Absolutely WON’T Change…

At the end of the day, all single people have one thing in common: they’re single. While technology is clearly changing how we date, the psychology of being single probably won’t change very much.

Take, for example, a single man in 2016. He might be using Tinder, OkCupid and Hinge to meet women online, but chances are he’s also trying to meet girls at bars or other social events.

In 2040, single people will still undoubtedly meet each other at bars and go home together. They just might be doing it a little less often.
